Coughing and sneezing and itching, Oh my!

Posted   |  No Comments

My Dog is Coughing and Sneezing! What could be happening? I do not know about you, but I really suffer from allergies in the Fall. Ragweed, pollen mold… My kids just started coughing and sneezing this week. This started me thinking about similar symptoms in our pets. First, I want to discuss the normal respiratory system in dogs to help everyone get a clearer understanding of what is happening when coughing and sneezing occurs. The respiratory system has a lot of defense mechanisms in place to protect the airway. Think of all the bacteria and debris we inhale in a day….

Dasuquin

Today, we want to keep up with the nutraceuticals we’ve been breaking down for you. There have been some great questions posed about which we recommend, if there are some that are “better” than others. Overall, we recommend the Dasuquin and the Welactin, as those are the ones with the most positive feedback from our clients. With that being said, all of the products we’ve posted here and mentioned are fantastic and have been proven to be great options for our patients. Don’t hesitate to talk to any one of our doctors if you are unsure as to which product…

In the land of pet supplements, the internet can be both your friend and your worst enemy. If you search “joint supplement for dogs”, you will likely get anything and everything ranging from legitimate, helpful, information to the most off the wall claims you could imagine. So this week, I will be breaking down and explaining the ingredients in TriCox, what they do, and why we recommend it for our patients. Laser Therapy- The Actual Facts

Posted   |  4 Comments

Last month, a long time Greenbriar regular began coming to me for laser therapy. He had begun to show signs of many classic older dog problems that materialized in weakness on his hind end, being unable to go up and down stairs, struggling to stand up from laying down, and generally losing his ability to get around well. Discussions had even been had about his quality of life and whether or not he was really happy anymore without being able to do so many things he’s always enjoyed, like our day camp program. At one of our trainer’s recommendations, he…

Hydrotherapy- What is it really?

Posted   |  No Comments

As many of you know, the phrase “hydrotherapy” comes up often in our blog posts. As does “cold laser therapy”, and a slew of supplement names. I was brainstorming over this last week, and decided that I want to give you, our readers, a little more insight into what exactly these terms mean and how they work. So for the next few weeks and intermittently moving forward, some of our entries will focus on the different components of rehab as well as our amazing clients. The first topic I want to cover is hydrotherapy. Hydrotherapy is defined by the medical…

Rehabilitation – Sasha

Posted   |  No Comments

This beautiful girl is Sasha, a rottweiler with a heart of gold. Sasha has been on quite a journey through rehab, and no one can tell it better than her mom, Angelin. Let me start with giving a Huge THANKS to Erin who made it possible for my Sasha to return back to doing what she loves the most- being outside playing. Sasha is my 7-year-old Rottweiler who was diagnosed with a complete CCl tear on her left knee in December of 2015. I took Sasha to VOSM to get a TPLO surgery done and they did a phenomenal job….

Static and Dry Skin, Welcome to Winter

Posted   |  No Comments

This time of year we love to cuddle under our blankets by the fire or just keep our heat turned up to a comfy temperature. I don’t know about you, but all these comforts come at a cost. My skin cracks, my socks stick to my sweaters out of the dryer, and my hair just sticks straight up from static. We need moisture! This is also true for our pets. Their skin gets just as dry but applying lotion to their entire body is just not practical. My solution, fish oil supplements.  Not just any fish oil, Omega 3 fatty…
