Trainer – Michael Angelo Kelly

Michael is a certified professional dog trainer that has come to join Greenbriar’s training team from New York City. Michael has extensive experience working with shelter animals and helping to create manageable household behaviors.

Michael adopted his first dog Raja at the age of two from Animal Care and Control in St Louis. She is an Akita mix who he acquired with incredible escape artist skills. Michael quickly realized through consistent communication and Raja’s love for food they were able to tackle and achieve many things from there.

Michael’s professional dog career began in New York City as a dog walker for Beastmasters. Working with Beastmasters taught Michael how to manage up to ten dogs at one time in the very busy and distraction filled atmosphere of New York City during walks and up to fifty dogs at a time in doggy day care groups. As the business grew Michael obtained his first certification (CCPDT) through Beastmasters and took a training position with the company.

Eventually Michael took a position with the North Shore Animal League which is one of the area’s largest rescue organization. While at NSAL Michael learned how to appropriately test temperament and gained confidence working with dogs with severe behavioral concern. NSAL is where Michael learned much of his behavioral theory, techniques and aggressive animal handling.

While working with North Shore Animal League Michael adopted a four month old Belgian Malinois named Maui. Upon adoption Maui was incredibly fearful and under socialized however Michael was able to work through those hang ups quickly and began building drive using dock diving.

Michael’s life brought him to Maryland and is looking forward to helping the community with their behavioral concerns. His personal goals while with Greenbriar are to achieve his behavioral consultant certification along with dabbling in Therapy work, Obedience, Rally, Agility and Scent work.
